Reading at Hedon Primary School

All children, in all classes will have a school reading book. These are levelled and culminate in the children moving to be a free reader. Children should read at least 3 or 4 times per week at home with an adult or, as they move into Key Stage 2, to themselves. We are delighted to announce that Reception and Year 1 will also be bringing a reading for pleasure book home each week. This book is for you to share and enjoy reading with your child. Your child may not be able to read this book themselves. You might like to make the book a bedtime story or curl up with a hot chocolate on a Saturday night to enjoy it together. You can read this as many times as your child would like and again record it in their reading record. We have also purchased all of the books on the 100 books to read before you leave Hedon Primary School. Welcome back

Welcome to Hedon Primary News Blog. We will be using this site as our newsletter and adding content from curriculum coordinators too. It has been lovely to welcome back all of our pupils this term. Whilst we are still taking a cautious approach to mixing, we have been able to relax some restrictions. This means our dining hall is back in use over lunchtime, children are mixing with a least one other class at breaktimes and at least two at lunch and Key Stage Assemblies have begun. We are really enjoying these times together. The children are playing together well and loving being able to play with a wider range of children. We have a number of new initiatives in place in school. All of our pupils are benefiting from Talk for Writing, Key Stage 1 have started Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics as well as a new Mastery Maths initiative and Key Stage 2 have been enjoying lots of new reading books. Eddie joins DIY SOS Big Build

One of our year 3 pupils, Eddie, joined BBC One’s flagship property renovation show, DIY SOS: The Big Build, as it headed to Hull this September to take on a charitable build with BBC Children in Need for St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull, East Yorkshire. DIY SOS: The Big Build BBC Children in Need Special will see the programme’s team of Mark, Chris, Jules, Billy and adventure playground engineer, John O’Driscoll, join with kind local tradesmen and volunteers (Including Eddie) to embark on a build that will improve the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people in Hull and the surrounding areas. The DIY SOS team, with the help of trade volunteers and Eddie, transformed an empty 2 ½ acre field into a purpose built ‘adventure camping site’ for St Michael’s Youth Project in Hull.
