Talk for Writing - Part 2

We are now coming to the end of our first Talk for Writing circle.  Our children have been overwhelmingly positive about the new approach.  They like that actions support them when remembering a story and also state that they enjoy using the new vocabulary they find.

We thought it would be nice to share with you some of the amazing writing that is displayed around the school and that can be seen in the children's books.

In EYFS Betsy and Oliver create large story maps for The little Red Hen.  Betsy's favourite bit was when the hen ate all of the bread herself.

The class also took the original story and changed the characters and plot to make up their own version.

Year 1 drew their own S shaped story maps to help them write their stories.  They really enjoyed learning the actions to The Life of a Cardboard Box.

Year 2 wrote long, extended stories when they completed their 'Hot Write'.  They used expanded noun phrases and different sentence openers to make sure their writing is interesting to read.  The also boxed up the story (see picture below) to help them plan their own version.

Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 have been working hard to ensure they add all of the text features needed.  Year 6 are using a self editing carousel to make sure that they do not miss anything out.
